    for two shares of common stock
    without par value. Company capital was

    president
    Frederick
    Palmer
    and secretary. Certificate is about 9” x 11.5.” Black
    print with green overprint/underprint. Vignette with thee allegorical
    figures next to stack of books.
    Certificate
    was issued to Edna Robb Webster, a prolific author in the 1920s and
    1930s who was an expert on Mayan Culture.
    The
    Palmer Institute of Authorship was a school in Hollywood, California
    for aspiring screenwriters during the silent motion picture era. The
    director of the Palmer Institute of Authorship was Frederick Palmer.
    Within Palmer’s correspondence to his scriptwriting students, he wrote: “In this great country with its vast mixture of
    races, all thrown into the melting pot of American tradition, there
    is a wonderful amount of raw material for drama. But you must
    transform this material – with characters and scenes – into an
    illusion so real that it will stir in others the emotions latent in
    life itself. And you must animate this reality also with something of
    beauty which shall justify your photodrama’s existence.”
